Projects and Sponsors
Many women get out of jail and often have no clue where to go career wise or if further education is an option. As volunteers, we can be the emotional support they need with just 1 hour a month. “Of course, although family ties may constitute as important, if not the most important source of support to inmates, just as clearly, other types of ties, including those with friends, may serve as a critical aid in the transition to society.” -Hairsto, C.F. (1990). Family ties during imprisonment: Do they influence future criminal activity? Federal Probation. 52. 48-52.

Current Project
IWA is working along side Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) to volunteer at Texas facilities with offender female gender. Currently, volunteer efforts are focused on Lockhart Correctional Facility.

Future Projects
The goal for IWA is to expand our volunteer reach to more facilities in the Texas area. Also, we will expand from one-on-one visitation to providing prolonged mentor-ship once released. Similar in the world of case work, we want to be able to provide job leads, professionalism training and housing assistance.
Partnerships with others! We desire to be able to refer and partner with other organizations for additional resources, such as drug rehabilitation programs, mental/medical care, anger management, legal services, and child services. Many newly released women will need these help in these areas and IWA would love to work with others to make sure they are getting the help they need. Let this is the moment when we as people must invest in humanity.
